This 4 days visit to Rwanda is an amazing opportunity to visit the mountain Gorillas in their natural forest in the Volcanoes National Park. The trip also gives you a chance to explore the remarkable culture of the Rwandan people. The trip starts at Kigali International airport and ends at the same point in 4 days.
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Ruhengeri in the park
You will be received by our local guide who is at the same time your driver and drive you through Kigali city and depending on the time of arrival at the airport, you will have a simple visit to the city to see the Genocide memorials. Transfer to the north of Rwanda towards Volcanoes National park arriving in the evening hours. Dinner and night stay at Kinigi guest house/Laplame Hotel/Mountain Gorilla view lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking
After an early breakfast at the lodge, you will transfer to the park headquarters to meet other guests for briefing and allocation of Gorilla groups to track. You will then be led into the jungle by a team of guides to search for a habituated Gorilla family. The hikes into the forest are quite tiresome and therefore requires some fitness, a walking stick will be provided for you to enjoy the hiking. Once you meet a gorilla group, you will be allowed to spend one full hour in their presence as you learn about their unique behavior. You will have a chance to ask all questions you want until the end of this experience. You will then be led back to the starting point to be issued tracking certificate in appreciation for your contribution towards conservation. Return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and night stay.
Day 3: Golden monkey tracking and transfer to Lake Kivu
Golden monkeys are a special primate specie living in the virunga volcanoes of Rwanda, Uganda and the DRC. They get their name from the golden fur that covers their bodies in their natural state. This day begins more like it was for Gorilla tracking, guests will be briefed at the park headquarters before they are led into the forest by a team of guides. Unlike the Gorillas, the golden monkeys are more lively and playful. After this experience you will be led back to the Hotel for lunch and then go for a community visit to interact with the local people. Expect to watch the traditional performances from the locals and participate if you wish. Transfer to Lake Kivu early enough and check into the lodge for dinner and night stay.
Day 4: Lake Kivu.
You will have an early breakfast at the lodge and head out for an exciting boat ride at Lake Kivu. You will visit the surrounding fishing villages. You will then be transferred to Kigali International airport after lunch and End your trip as you depart.
